Temporary contract for one year, Based in Milton Keynes

The Faculty is looking for a Research Technician with a range of laboratory and fieldwork skills and experience to join our team evaluating the performance and environmental impact of biodegradable-waste treatment processes. The work will mainly involve field and laboratory analyses of biodegradable wastes, leachates and gaseous emissions from lab-scale trials and industrial-scale waste treatment plants. The post will be based in Milton Keynes and travelling to and from other research locations will be required.

You will have a degree or equivalent in a scientific subject (preferably environmental, soil or biological sciences) and relevant laboratory experience with evidence of professional training in laboratory procedures (preferably in environmental research). You should be familiar with Health and Safety regulations, including CoSHH and be able to demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Senior Manager: Research and Business Support, Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Manager to lead the Faculty?s Research and Business Office and to manage key operations that support the realisation of more diverse income and external engagement activity.

You will report to the Director (Strategy, Planning and Resources) and support the development and delivery of MCT?s strategic and financial plans working closely with Associate Deans, Department academics and other areas of the University e.g. Business Development Unit, Research School, OU Development Office.

You will need strong line management and communication skills, a proactive service approach in supporting key internal and external stakeholders, excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and to manage changing priorities and team workloads to meet deadlines. You will need to be a strong collaborator, able to make connections across people and opportunities for Faculty benefit. Experience of assessing cost and risk, and developing effective business cases for proposals would be a distinct advantage.

We need a flexible, self-motivated person to provide high quality administrative and organisational support to our busy Directors and Regional Management Team. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from planning diaries, identifying work priorities and organising meetings to drafting documents, researching information and co-ordinating ad hoc projects. You?ll also be liaising on behalf of the Directors with a wider range of internal departments and external organisations.

Your impressive track record of office administration will have included producing your own correspondence to the highest standards. Outstanding interpersonal, relationship-building and prioritising skills, the ability to spot improvement opportunities and a high level of initiative will be essential. To this you?ll add a good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and a strong sense of team spirit.

An exciting project position has become available in the Open University?s Media Production Team. We are looking for a skilled developer to join our existing team, working on a project to develop an automated system to enable content to be converted for mobile devices and eBook readers.

The Open University requires a technical developer working at the Walton Hall site, to support the development and maintenance of its in-house digital publishing systems. A strong background in XML, XSLT, XPath and related technologies for transforming XML documents into HTML and other formats is essential, supported by a good knowledge of CSS and JavaScript. Familiarity with the ePub specifications and associated standards is highly beneficial. The ability to program applications in
C++ and/or Java would be advantageous.

As Administrative Support Assistant you will be part of a small team providing administrative support for Library Services. Working with the PA you will be responsible for the smooth running of the Director?s activities. You will provide a range of services to support the Director and the Director?s PA including diary and email management, working group and meetings administration, co-ordinating high profile visits and supporting the day-to-day running of the Directorate.

Educated to GCSE standard, you will have good organisational and customer service skills. You will need to be able to juggle a number of activities, maintain confidentiality and prioritise. The ability to work as part of a team and self-motivate are important and good IT skills are essential.

The Open University Business School, with the support of True Potential LLP, is creating a new research centre ? the True Potential Centre for the Public Understanding of Finance.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate who can lead the development of an explicitly cross-disciplinary centre and who can galvanise our research in the area of financial capability.

You will be an outstanding researcher with a demonstrable record of excellence in teaching. You would be expected to produce outputs of appropriate quality to be submitted to the Research Excellence Framework, as well outputs targeted for wider dissemination to policy makers, independent financial adviser networks and the wider general public. You would also be responsible for contributing to the study of personal finance in the curriculum.
